Course Code: AT1A (F Course & PG Cert)
This Foundation Course is designed for people interested in relationships and attachment and who come into contact with parents and couples through their work.  Both National Occupational Standards and the qualifications in 'Work with Parents' require that new and experienced workers can demonstrate knowledge of relationships between parents and how these affect their children, as well as show skills in working with them.  They also require that staff working with parental couples have the ability to reflect on their work in order to further help their clients.

Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Attachment, Psychoanalysis and the Couple Relationship

Course Code: AT1B (PG DIP) and AT1C (MA)

This academic programme is designed to deepen students' existing understanding of adult couple and parental relationships from the perspectives of Attachment theory and Psychoanalysis. It combines academic teaching with reflection on students' own experience of observing or working with adult couples and parents and it builds on the learning gained from the Foundation Course (AT1A). The PG Diploma focuses on specific topics such as Violence, Sexuality, Separation and Loss, and the relationship between Internal and External Organisations, as they manifest in the adult couple and in parents. The MA introduces students to the particular requirements of psychoanalytically-oriented research and ends with a chapter-length case study. The MA enables the development of a critical understanding of research texts and evidence.
